Auto button on climate control???

What is the AUTO button on the climate control surposed to do as all it seems to do on mine is turn the fan on high!

Ive heard that it applies a temp differential between the outside temp & cabin temp, ist this true?

auto is supposed to do just that "auto" (!)

when engine is cold, usually doesnt turn fan on until warm enough, then fan on quite high, usually via windscreen, then through other vents later. compressor is on. audi suggest leave ac in auto, and i've always found it seems to just sort itself out if you do. whatever mode its in it checks outside, inside and engine temp all the time....
