Hi guys,

Thought I'd get a bit of a thread going about my 80.

I bought it a few months ago with the following work having already being carried out on it:
S2 front bumper
Coupe front lights
Weitec shocks and springs
Custom SS exhaust
KnN Panel filter
It was fully re-sprayed 3 years ago in its original colour and there is hardly any rust at all.

Since I've owned it I've done/completed the following work:
LED side lights
Aero wipers
Black out the grill
Willans 17 by 7.5 alloys
20mm spacers
Wheel studs instead of bolts
New side indicators
S2 front calipers
New discs all round
New standard rear pads
EBC Yellow stuff front pads
Braided line
New brake fluid
Yellow fogs and indicators
2.2 KV throttle body

Future plans include:
New interior
More powerz, in the form of a 1.8T
Maybe more lows too.
Competiton front lip and rear spoiler.

Looks and sits very nice.

Not massively keen on the wheels but I'm a bit of a traditionalist. If you could get the 10 spoke 80 wheels in 17" they'd be spot on.

There are a few build threads on fitting 1.8T engines to B4 cars over on the S2 Forum and Classic Audi. Worth a read if you want to start planning the swap.

Or you could do what I did and fit a 5pot turbo (AAN) in there from an S6 and RS2 spec it Twisted Evil

Davey, I knew when I bought the wheels that alot of people wouldnt be too keen on them but I've not seen another set like them and it's good to do something different than everyone else.

Beerbelly, I'd love a 5 pot turbo but I think due to the extra cost of one I'll have to stick with a 4 pot.

Right Audi A3 interiors don't fit. . . without a fair amount of work anyway.
So interiors been scrapped off for a while.

Last night I fitted an upgrade loom for the headlights, its made a HUGE difference to the level of light output! Well worth doing for anyone with an old Audi.

currently looking at raising the front bumper a bit as there is a gap between the headlights and the top of the bumper, this is going to require a but of cutting so a job for a day when I've got plenty of time.

I still cant find whats knocking but my mate noticed something rather concerning the other day. If you look at the rear of my car the drivers side rear wheel seems to be alot further inside the arch that the passenger side one.

passenger side = wheel flush with arch
drivers side = wheel tucked in arch

Any ideas? I'll stick a photo up later.

The new breaks are Awesome! Done about 200 miles + on them and the difference is Epic, I actually feel like I can stop the car now. lol.

Also should be going lower soon as I need new rear shocks so I might aswell go the whole hog and get uprated shocks and springs all round.

There is usually a gap on the front bumper; the front height can be adjusted via the mounting brackets; if memory serves, where the brackets mount to the chassis rails with 2 bolts, they're slotted on the bracket themselves. You may get access through the fog/ indicators, can't remember off the top of my head... but either way you should be able to adjust. Patience is all that's needed....

I've loved watching this car develop. I'm tempted to tint my fogs yellow too, gives a unique look. Did you tint or buy the fogs coloured?

you could buy them "yellow"- not very common, and probably not cheap! Not sure about the indicators though (whether you can buy them yellow)

I used some glass paint from 'hobby craft'.

Im thinking of taking it off and just tinted them dark while painting the headlight surrounds black.

Got a list of things to do (as usual)

sort out the suspension - Weitec Ultra GT -60mm kit to be ordered - might as well go lower lol
remove the paint from the fogs/indicators and tint
paint headlight surrounds black
adjust front bumper
competition style spoiler
set of 16" pro race 1.2's in black
comfier seats - still
1.8t - eventually.

What a list ! It's coming along nicely though. I've thought about the yellow tint but me thinks I'll stay as Audi made it. Especially now you are thinking about taking it off! When you say paint headlight surrounds,do you mean the silvering?

It's fairly easy really, search for 'joey mod' on Google.
I did it to my old Scirocco headlights.

basically;
Put the headlights in to over to soften the glue, prise the lense off (gently) clean the inside of the light unit, bit of wet on dry round the areas to paint, use low tak take to cover up the reflective bit, paint black, leave, remove take, warm the glue back up and stick them back together.

I really reccomend fitting a upgrade relay'd headlight loom onto your coupe, it will make your headlights so much brighter.

Ah yes, remember looking at the mod for my v5 golf. If you do it, keep us all posted.
As for better wiring for brighter lights, someone on here did it, and was going to post a 'how to'. Electrics, not my strong point!

If you buy a kit from Ebay like I did the instructions are included.
It's really easy - I hate electronics too.
i'll put some photos up if you like?

If you could be bothered it would be easy to make the loom yourself but I couldnt be bothered lol.

Bit of an update <- It's not really a good one.

Had a mate have a good look over the car to asess its health. He's come back with a fair sized list. . . . . . . balls.

All shocks are worn - standard shocks + lowering springs = quickly worn, knocking shocks
NS engine mount FUBR'd
Front top mounts knackered
Sensor in master cylinder needs replacing
Air control valve (above air-box) sticking, causing poor start - Remember I've got KE-jet.
Leaking power steering pump.

SO. .

Once payday arrives it's
A Weitec 60mm Ultra GT suspension kit
A new pair of engine mounts - think it would be best to change both
A new sensor
Pair of new top mounts

Then I need to fit everything, fix the powersteering pump (hopefully wont need replacing) and then air control valve.

Have a pic (if nothing else it should restore some of my enthuisam)

Ah I remember those bombing round the track
I need a mate like that, but I dread to see the list after he examined mine!
Main thing is peace of mind, at least you know and can work through the list
Make you grin every time you drive the car knowing you have got all the teething problems sorted and it's running a driving 'just so'

Not updated this in ages.

Had a few issues that almost made me give up and get rid on the 80. However, I'm not a quitter so I've put some time into it and here's a short update.

-60mm Weitec kit fitted -Suspension now sitting level after much arsin about
New engine mounts fitted
New top mounts fitted
Power steering pump replaced / new fluid
Running issues all sorted - All connections cleaned and a full can of carb cleaner sprayed in + new fuel filter + few tanks of V-power with red-ex
Cold Air Feed fitted to air box
Headlight surrounds blacked
Fog lights and indicators blacked
Front bumper adjusted to fit better


Here's a few pics.






and I loved the look of it in this shot (even though its not clean)






Will update more laters.

rattles...?

Could be dashboard- mainly the lower parts, seat belts "anchors" (mine does) and door cards (there's a bit of plastic type stuff that sits over the metal where the door card hooks sit... hard to explain)

Are they coming from a particular location?
