I'm currently driving an E46 BMW 318i MSport saloon but I'm planning on changing to an A4 cabrio shortly ... I'm pretty sure the 1.8T is the engine I'm best going for but I'm not sure if its worth holding out for one with Quattro or not ...? Also any other pointers apart from cambelt and water pump would be much appreciated Very Happy

Cheers

Hi and welcome

We have the 1.8T none quattro cabriolet and its a great car. But it will not be sport like your BMW.
It is quite planted but very heavy and feels it to drive. More of a cruiser than sporty but does eat the miles really well in comfort.

The front wheel drive is fine and I am not sure the quattro is worth the extra fuel consumption given the lack of sportyness about the car.

The 1.8T is a very strong engine and definately the one to go for.
watch the oil pick up pipe though as it can sludge up causing oil starvation. This is normally due to the Audi scrimpo long life service where the oil is left in the engine to long before being changed causing sludge build up.

best is to change the oil every 6 months. Turbo engines need good clean oil since the high temperatures in the turbo mean the oil has to work hard.

We have had ours about 6 months and its been good so far. if you can I would get the half leather half alacantara seats as they a nicer than leather, not so cold in the winter or hot in the summer.

No other things to worry about really.

Cheers
Tony

go quattro, you wont regret it!

much more sporty drive than the fwd's and no loss of traction wet or dry... or in the snow!

Quattro every time. If you can't afford a "proper" (big engine) one, you'll still just love the roadholding ability of the standard ones. Nothing beats it. Mike

Quattro saved my life in Scotland. On a piss wet road and being pulled out on.

For the extra weight and couple of mpg loss I would rather have it. As said go for a slightly bigger engine to cope with the weight.
