After nearly 6 years in my A4 1.9 TDI Avant it was time for something else..

A6 2.7 V6 TDI SE Avant, 55 Reg, 94K Very Happy

I've done about 600 miles so far and loved every one of them. This car is soo smooth, I love this engine, you can hardly hear or feel it running Very Happy
First tank returned nearly 38 mpg, not bad for such a big car!

Only one niggle so far was a slow puncture, which also revealed that the rear disks/pads need replacing soon. This is no longer a DIY job as you need a tool/vagcom to set the rear brakes into service mode Sad

I used to spent most time on the A4 section (see related post http://www.audifans.net/ftopict-38869.html) , but I will now be mainly focussing on this A6 section, which does not seem to busy Question ...

Cheers

Hello,

Welcome to the A6 forum! I know what you mean about it being quiet on here. I have an A4 too, and that forum is much busier! I just wanted to reply so you didn't think it's dead on here.

Nice choice on the A6! I do like the V6. You do well with the economy. I get about 38-40 over a tankful from the 170 BHP 2.0.

As for the brakes, there are cheap pad reset tools (£30) or so on "popular auction sites". I've not tried them, but will certainly be investigating when the time comes.

Drive safely!

Pete

Thanks, found them and will be investigating soon, too cold to work on the car at the moment. Sad

Done about 1000 miles now and it is a great car Very Happy Just a pity to see that Audi is unable to get rid of the usual niggles like rear wiper motors (mine is not working and rust coloured water comes out, the plenum chamber was full water - same problems I had with my old A4 - I'm quite sure there will be more stuff to come but that's it so far.

Bought some nice wheels today Very Happy

Will run down the current set of tyres (another 10K I estimate) before buying new tyres for these beauties.

Hi Gareth

I still see you are providing stickies ! Well done for your diy prowess!!

My Golf 1.6 Tdi DSG is now being traded. I hate DSG on my sloping then level drive.

Just waiting for South Africa to build week start 2 December, a New model Polo 1.2 Tsi SEl 110 with lots of toys MANUAL 6 gear job in Blue silk metallic. Delivery about mid January 2015. My last change at my age now !!! Getting ancient but fit ! Very Happy Smile

Not been here for a long time Sad - life takes over when least expected...

The A6 is going strong, but has needed quite a bit of work in the last year - leaving me stranded due to broken aux belt pulley - common fault at around 100K. Cost a bomb to get it all replaced (belts, pulleys, tensioner etc. etc)

Still returns 39mpg, not bad for a big car like this.

What will be your next car?

Hi Gareth
I was going to buy a new South Africa Built POLO SEL 1.2 Tsi 110bhp six speed manual petrol but changed my mind

I tested a Golf 1.4 Tsi Match Mk 6 manual petrol wihth 17k miles. More tax and fuel, very nice drive. Allowance for my Golf 1.6 Tdi Match DSG with 23k miles was pathetic (£7700). Decided to keep the 1,6 Dsg (Dealers sell these for £9500 -11500) for the time being as very low miles and 57 mpg overall. Just had big service and nil wrong with it!!

Keep smiling
