Hello, I have Audi A3 Sportsback1900.
2005.

The lights are coming on indisriminently. Sometimes it is just one side then the next time it will be all lights. Has flatened the battery a couple of times now.
It also set of the alarm.

Any help would be apprciated.

Had the car 3 years and my friend had it before that since new.
Never happend before.
I have the Vag and run a test when the lights were on one morning to no avail nothing showed up.

The Alarm goes off when it detects a voltage drop in the battery.

There was problems with the headlight switches, but I don't recall these being the symptoms. Worth a try disconnecting the light switch to see if that changes anything. To take out the light switch I think you push it in then turn it one way or the other.

Thinking it might be a fault with the see you home lights. Have you disabled this on the dash?

Best I can do I am afraid.

When you jump out your car at night and lock it do the headlights come on to light up the dark driveway of Vegeta Towers?
My wifes 2004 A3 has this, the switch is just under the knob for the headlights. I am just presuming this was a standard feature.

Other fault lies in the actual speedo instrument cluster and can cause funny problems. Something to do with a bad solder point, Audi fix is a whole new instrument cluster, but some guys can repair them. Not sure on the exact symptoms though.

It might not be anything like I have said. But they are both "common faults".

I prefer to hand the A3 to a specialist, especially for things like this as he knows most of the common faults and can diagnose them quickly, saving money on labour and possibly parts that are not needed.

When the lights come on. sometimes its just the brake light in the center, sometimes one side then the other, sometimes all lights. So I would say definet fault.
