1991 coupe 2.3 e . two fuel pumps?

I noticed that there is an inline fuel pump (I think) beside the fuel filter underneath the car. There is also a pump in the tank. Is this two pumps or is it something else ? Where should the fuel pump be in this model, 2.3 auto 1991

I'm not familiar with the details of the coupe (mine was a 2.3E saloon), but I think you'll find that the smaller item is the fuel pressure damper required by the Bosch CIS-E system.

Pulses in fuel pressure from the fuel pump are damped, to avoid affecting the plate position in the metering head.

It also maintains residual fuel pressure for easier hot starts.
