Hi all ye faithful
After almost 12 months of being the proud owner of nice tidy Allroad, I was dropped in the poo big time this morning! Went out to open the car, but the remote didn’t work? Using the key to open up, found the car was as flat as a pancake!
I have noticed in the last few weeks that the battery was getting a little soft and was due for replacement. A nice new one went in two weeks ago. Everything was great until this morning.
Anyway, I got the charger out and got it working on the week old battery after disconnecting it from the car. When I came to reconnect the battery all the indicator lights came on? Nothing baring removing the hazard fuse 39 will stop them. If I now indicate they chatter and the hazard switch indicator glows.
I also have been suffering in the last few weeks with a very soggy left rear footwell. I have also noticed that my window wash water seems to deplete quite quickly. I tend to use the rear wash often, you know what estates are like. I thought at the time that perhaps there is a leak from the window was pipe to the rear. Does anyone know where it is routed?
I have been wondering if there is any connection to the other electrical problems...something in my soggy rear well dosent like getting wet, like perhaps the central locking control unit under the seat? The remote system seems to work fine, except not flashing the lights bit. I spotted a few connections between the central locking and the hazard switch so there may be somthing in this logic.
Then I spotted this thread from a rival site and jumped out of my skin! It is exactly the same as my problem!!

There are a number of links posted that mention either AC drains or battery tray drains. I dont tend to use the ac much, only perhaps for a quick demist now and then.
My first port of call is to investigate the hazard switch, see if I can get legal for monday, then the wet well and check on the central locking control. May even be tempted to put some food dye in the was bottle....
Anyone out there with any bright ideas? |

Update,
The drain hole under the battery was clear but the other near the brake booster was solid with crud. Quite clean around there so I can only presume water building up there is not the problem.
Now if I could just find where the ac drains out, thats my next move. Realy dont fancy taking out the carpet to get at it according to
http://forums.audiworld.com/a6/msgs/292398.phtml This looks like a LHD car, would I be correct in thinking that a RHD car would be on the opposite side? Does this look like its on the lower front of the bulkhead just to the side of the tunnel? |

Update
Problem solved.
The red dye whent in and I spent a few mins messing around with the rear washer adjustment. I soon noticed some red stuff dripping to the floor at the front left. It was red!
Got the carpet back and uncovered loads of foam! I had it!
Digging deeper, I found the central locking unit swimming in the stuff.
Opened up the waterproof protective box to find the control unit under water ( not red, but light blue from my previous washer fluid ).
A few bursts of the washer gave me the location of the leak:
There is a little black corrigated pipe that takes the washer fluid to the rear that follows the wiring loom. on the left of the front left footwell just behind where all the loom connectors are held there is a bloody joint in it! A completely disconnected joint. How I got any water to the rear, I dont know. I connected it back together, it took quite some pushing and eventialy it snapped into place. Now, I recon the factory didnt push it quiet hard enough to get it home.....
Wonderull stuff, WD40.....
Its all back together ( not the carpet just yet ) and it all works properly. |

the rain water I think si supposed to be able to get into the compartment aroudn the pollen filter holder - but it is not supposed to get into / inside the filer housing.
There is a plastic seal / gasket sandwiched between the underside of gthe pollen filter housing and the 'deck' that the pollen filter housing is bolted down onto ( 3 bolts ).
If that gasket perishes - then water can get in - and that means the water enters the air system...and so gets in and down to the passenger footwell.

sorry meant to add ref. the hassard relay - it integral to the hazzard light switch.
YOu prise off the fascia surround, aroudn the hazzard light switch,
then you need to prise the hazzard relay out - there is nothing 'locking it in place - no hooks or latches - it is just spring / friction holding it in place. I used jewelers screwdrivers to leaver it each side at a time to get it out.
Got replacement relay from Euro Car Parts. Easy to fit - but watch out there is not much slack on the wires running to the rear of the relay when you connect it.
So when you disconnect the old relay make usre the 'plug' doesn't drop down out of reach behind the dash.
maybe post a fresh question on the hazzard query to get more response. |
