Hi guys,
Owned an 05 A4 estate 120k for 2 years
Drove it into a private (recommended) garage for an oil leak repair
Leak identified as hairline sump crack, £192 bill for repair
Garage tell me that on trying to move it, car now won't start
Two weeks later, problem identified as a bolt which has sheared off a auxiliary pully into the cambelt and jammed it
Now informed it's another £450 to replace cambelt ...
Plus possible further bill if timing out after cambelt fitted for valves ?
Is someone doing my legs or does that all sound possible
Advice / opinion gratefully received
Cheers, Matt

What engine is that?

Sounds a slightly strange story in honesty.

IN the £192 bill you had does it specify removal of the cambelt to remove the sump, usually there is no need.

You may have been very very unlucky and coincidental but does sound a bit odd to me.

All gone wrong ....

Cambelt & kit changed , valve damage now , car stuck in sunny WSM and a quote for £1300 to repair , too much for an 05 car worth £4k

Will now look to sell as a non runner I think to someone with the skills and machinery to repair themselves
Can anyone recomend a worthwhile site / means to advertise a non runner please ?

The thing is that at least you know that car for sometime now and once repaired properly you know what to expect. If you sell it and buy some other 2nd hand you must be very lucky to get something decent... there're always little hidden things you'd find out afterwards...
I say get it fixed and keep it. As a non runner you'd get now much... 1000? Add another 3K for a new one and you'd end up paying 3 times more than if you're to repair the current one...
Just a thought...
