Hi lads,
I'm new to the forum. Loving the content.
I'm sure this has probably discussed before but I'm looking at the 2010 two litre diesel Le Mans in Daytona grey. I'm sold on the spec and the colour but my head is wrecked over the transmission.
Now that this model has been about a few year now, has anybody had any problems with the automatic? Is it powerful enough in the 2.0 auto, and is remappng them safe and how does it make a difference on performance and fuel efficiency? Or is manual just a safer option!!!?
I am currently driving a 2.5 touareg auto diesel and want rid soon and the
Le Mans is top of my list. I love an auto but only if there is lots of poke in an auto if you get me. Any help on the above questions would be appreciated!! |

Hi & welcome
Auto vs manual is a very personal choice - I would never buy an auto box as I think changing gear is part of the fun of driving
Further, it is just something else to go wrong, I heard one to many horror stories on Audi auto boxes: if they do go wrong it will cost a fortune to get fixed
Saying that, I got the 2.7 TDi and I think it would suit an auto box quite nicely.
I have no experience with re-mapping but heard you can get more power and better fuel consumption. Not sure why you need more power, I got 180 bhp and it realy is more than enough for the A6, if you realy want more then I would suggest to get a V8 petrol.

Have to agree with GJR, auto v manual is a personal choice, but for the same reasons prefer a manual box.
The 2.0 TDI engine in the Le-Mans is already chipped to 170 bhp from the stock 140 bhp, to chip it further would put unnecessary stress and strain on the engine, yes you may get better acceleration and fuel consumption may be a tad better, but only because you're not 'booting it' more, you may find the engine will not last as long as was planned by Audi.
just a thought. |

Hi lads first off thanks for your input.
I've looked into the point ukwide made about tuning an already tuned engine. thanks ukwide as it's a fairly obvious point I just hadn't thought of it so thanks for raising it as now I can knock that idea on the head and decide on transmission!
As regards the autos, I like an auto but only if there's plenty of poke in it. I've always had a big engined motor and fell in love with the automatic a few years back when on holiday in America.
Anyways both responses have said its all down to preference which is very true. As I would prefer an auto I just need to find out the costs of damage if anything goes wrong! Plus a trip to a dealership for a test drive of both transmissions should help me make up my mind!!!
Thanks for your responses... |

Go Manual on this car.
The auto is a modified DAF variomatic called multitronic and it's horrible IMHO. If they had used the S-tronic (DSG) that would be a different story, but with diesel lag sub 1500 rpm and the "rubber band" winding up in the gearbox, if you want poke, you'll be sorely disappointed.
Also the manual 6 spd box on this car is excellent.
If you want auto go Merc or BMW, no, on second thoughts... stick with a manual Audi!
just my 2p worth. |
