My passenger door window has been making a terrible sound when activated lately so i decided to sort it. After removing the door panel i cleaned the rubbing strip then gave it a good rubbing in of silicon grease, this i did three times after a suitable break. All to no use, damn thing screams like a stuck pig and is extremely embarrassing.
Can somebody help? |

I pulled the door panels off my car and replaced them the other day; I saw the mechanisim for the windows and it may be the actual gear that winds the window upwards/downwards? Does a rear one do it? I know they're a lot easier to get the panels off so you could test this theory on that first haha |

Hi Mat, Only got two doors on my car, couldn't afford the other two. I was wondering about the mechanism so a closer inspection is next. Thanks.

Never come across this noisy problem but I'd strip the door panel off so I can see the window etc, look for shiny worn areas and operate the window to see if the origin of noise can be seen, sorry but best I can offer.. |

Thanks Hoolio, it is stripped down am going to look at the motor and whatever is hiding. Am wondering if the motor needs lubricating. I should be getting the main problem sorted soon, major job, engine out so i am getting quotes from Audi workshops in north Germany, will save a bomb! |

Most likely the window motor itself, the grease tends to dry up and they stick.
They are pretty easy to disassemble and clean up but it’s a good idea to make a note of where the cables exit and which way they are wound round the spindle.
When the cables are removed, you will need to pry the cable guide piece from the motor, and then you can clean up and re-grease the motor mechanism.
The gasket will most probably be dead so a tube of instant gasket will be needed, I don’t think you can buy the gaskets separately.
After re-assembly, I smeared the lot in petroleum jelly so any water coming down past the window seal should just run off |
