Anyone put their car back on the road after being SORN'd since we lost the tax disc?? Was wondering if you still had to wait at all or is it now ok to tax and drive right away?

you might as well wait until 1st April for the complete month.

You can drive straight away. You'll get an e-mail receipt unless you use your post office. Keep records

Yeah you can drive straight away now as all the info is held on a database and updated instantly. Police cars fitted the ANPR system checks cars as they pass them and use the same database to crosscheck the validity.
Seems like verything is going that way now, with MOT's and insurance following suit.
Main change is when buying/selling a car - the tax cannot be sold on and has to be bought separately with the seller reclaiming for any month(s) left on it.

just to resurrect this thread, you can now tax your motor for a month and sorn it again using the direct debit monthly payment option.
i rang the dvla to confirm and the guy didnt really want to admit it is an option. i've done that with my coupe a couple of times this year now rather than pay for 6 months over the summer. Very Happy
