Hi, Recently changed my 16V Coupe for a V6 and just doing a few modifications to it. I bought a set of second hand 17" alloys which were taken off a Ford Focus and the tyres are too smaller profile. They are 205/40/R17. What sort of tyre would anyone recommend on this size of Wheel on a coupe? I'm thinking 205/55/R17?

it will depend on the rim size. Are they 7", 7.5 or 8" wide ?

Is that the dimension also stamped on the wheel ?

think you'll need 225 45 17 or 245 40 17.

45 profile will ride better

I've got the wheels on the car now so cant see whats stamped on them. The measurement is from the outer face of the rim lip from one size to the other. I cant imagine they are 7's. They will either be 7.5 or 8. What would you go for on 7.5?

personally, i run on standard size rims. always have. Audi spend millions developing and testing and they usually get it right - there are exceptions

However, for 17" wheels I would only consider 225 45 17 or 205 50 17.

Yes I do agree with you. If I was doing alot of miles in mine or using it as an every day car I would certainly run on standard size wheels. However I only do 2k miles a year in mine and just take it out every now and again at weekends so its more about looking pretty than anything!

Thanks for your advise. I think I will go 205/50 R17. The width on the tyres already on it seem pretty good to me, its the height of them that looks all wrong on the car

Yep, 205 40 17 is miles out and will look wrong.

You need to match rolling radius of 205 60 15

When I ran mine, had 17's
Went for 215/45/17, seemed ok.
No tram-lining etc
