Hi there,

I have just ordered an EGR blanking plate from the brickwerks website (seen on here) for just short of £6.
I ordered it just to try it out and see if it improves performance as i read somewhere it does.
Is it easy to fit? Dont even know where the EGR is. Will prob get a mechanic to do it.

Easy to fit 2 hex bolts (6mm?)
Part bolted to rear of inlet manifold, has a vacuum pipe connected to it, and is linked to the exhaust system.
Undo 2 bolts, clean faces, fit gaskets & plate , kit should have come with longer bolts.
You may want to remove the intake pipe from the turbo to manifold and check how caked with soot/crud/shit it is. It may be worthwhile to remove and clean the inlet manifold first as mine was caked in crud about 10mm thick!!
Cleaned manifold, injectors, bashed out cat internals and fitted the egr block off and now get at least 5 mpg improvement.

Try a search on here or check Jas11N's posts on project sooty, as he is the king of the "how to's" im sure he fitted one to his 80, and it will be an excellent write up Very Happy

Embarassed Embarassed Thanks go to Mr Dubmeister for the compliments.

As said, very very easy job, so easy I only took two pictures.
Remove two bolts, clean, insert one extra gasket and the plate, refit two supplied longer bolts.
Job done.
Shots are of my 1.9 1Z TDi engine, I'm sure the 5 cylinder TDI will have a different orientation of the valve, but otherwise the same size plate and fitment.

Don't quote me on this, but I'm 99% certain the EGR valve on your engine isn't a later type than can pull up fault codes.
It's a vacuum operated valve the same as above.

Been doing this to transit 2.5di engines for years, they run better because they are not resurculating hot exhaust air into the inlet manifold just the cold air from the air box.

Shouldn't do- pull off and block the vacuum pipe going to it and see if it throws any codes.. Very Happy

Definitely does not throw up a code. Mines been blanked for months all okay so far.Still chucks out a cumulonimbus when hoofing it but they do.
It was a peace of mind thing for me.

blocking the egr will not give any error code ... you can block the vacuum hose or mount blank plate like it's shown on pics (or both Very Happy )
... this can be, apparently, done by vagcom but I didn't try it
... no it will not give you more power, only cleaner intake air and manifold ... as far as I know this is only for emissions reasons
... talking about manifold ... yes, clean it, I was using diesel fuel and gasoline and it worked but getting soot out from those bends is PIA Shock ... I've left some diesel in it for one day to disolve those deposits ... lett the time work for you Wink

Hi,
I have a a4 2004 2.5 tdi 180 bhp quattro bdh engine,
I got a blanking plate for egr and found a thead which explained how to do it but not for my engine.
Also the allen screw heads are under the manifold inbetween the black plastic cover which on other pics the heads face towards the window screen!! Very akward to get!! Is my car unusual or are the bdh models like this?
Any help or pics of my model?
Thank u
