Hi all, I haven't been here for a while...
I have a problem with the lid the roof folds into, it's not locking down and also I cannot open the boot, it's a manual roof and the button on the door pillar has never worked but I've always opened it using the catches either side of the car. Any ideas will be appreciated ...

Hi, I'm new to the soft top scene having had a few Coupes in the past and a 100 Avant but currently running an A4.
However Ive just bought (last Sunday) a 1993, 80 Cabrio and have been searching for all the common stuff that might crop up in the future.
Might not be of any help but I have discovered that there are a number of thing that can cause roof problems and one of them seems to be related to the wiring loom that goes from the main body into the boot lid.
The wires in the looms either side of the lid have a tendancy to break as the boot lid is opened and closed. As the roof operation relies on the boot closure being detected (possibly via a microswitch).
The wire loom problem is also common on the Coupe but with differing results/faults.
The guy I've just bought the Cabrio from mentioned that he had the wiring loom repaired but I didnt understand why until I found this info.
The following link is excellent:
