Hi, I live in Fraserburgh and when i had my A4 Avant Tdi i went up to Pickwick Performance at Deskford between Cullen and Buckie.
He has a very good work shop and sells alot of clean Audi's and V W's
His price for work on car's are ok, not the Aberdeen prices.

I am now the proud owner of a brand new A3 Sportback which i pick up in 3 weeks time from Specialist Aberdeen, i cant wait.

I have been taking my Audi and VW's to Aberdeen Volks Centre in Kingswells for a couple of years now and they have always done a great job. Their labour costs seem to have gone up a little recently but never had any problem with the quality of their work.

Their courtesy cars leave a lot to be deisred though!

I've been told to steer clear of the Bavaria Motor Garage in Aberdeen due to ripping some people off, but i have never tried them myself.

I have just booked my A6 in for a service and cambelt change in at Kenny Auto's in Inverness. http://www.invernesscitydirectory.com/kennyautos/ who has got a great reputation. Its a bit of a drive but saving £120 over Aberdeen Volks Centre is worth a day out.

Only tried Specialist Cars in Aberdeen once, did a fine job but cried when parting with so much cash.

HTH

wonderful, ?I didnt expect this many responses.. cheers people!

I live in Kingswells at the minute, but am moving to Insch in the next few months. I am quite keen on keeping the coupe A1 and quite keen on a wee bit of tuning. Considering getting it ported and polished any of these garages capable of that?

Inverness i may well consider (I am a black isler originally and visit the folks often).

Bavaria, I have heard the same as well, so thats not sounding good.

Pickwick, I have heard of for VW's though but if they have an audi affinity thats good too! Which variant of the sportback have you picked up mate? welcome!

Dundee, is only what 55 miles away not that far and the missus doesnt need much excuse to go shopping.

Last but not least does AOC make any really differences in these places? does this means they know i want he car looked after or am I just another punter...

negative feedback on the Volks Centre for me. I have spoent over £1000 on servicing both cars, those on the coupe forum will see the noise issues I have with my coupe, I was charged for the Tappets being checked out and told there was no noise.. you should listen to it! The MAF buggered on the A6 days after they cleaned it, and now has an oil leak which drips on the cat which wasnt there before... I am not impressed.

recommendation:
Firstdrive in hindswells just outside Stonehaven. Doing a decoke on my coupe quattro. Willing to do it and done it before. Better still loads of VAG served mechanics & cars in there, plus country garage equals good rates.

I work in Portlethen so its pretty handy as well...

my brother just bought a mk 2 golf GTi the other day without MOT, they have been a godsend in fixing everything and so much cheaper than we thought. I am well impressed. Bit of a haul for me from Insch to Stonehaven but worth it...

There number is 01569 766766 Its up in hindswells towards swanley forest if you know it. Plus the guy that owns it has a really nice rare golf mk2 country a kind of liek the allroad is to the A6 as the golk mk2 gti is to the country.

i like it lots!

I've only ever seen a couple of them, and both were left hookers.

I travel from Turriff to Portlethen everyday so a little further down to Stoney isnt much difference for me. Its good to have options in choices of garage. It seems harder and harder to find a quality service.

he had two apparently sold the other believe they were all left hookers.

Really friendly and helpful garage, kind of what i have been looking for someone that understands and knows the car plus tells me what the can do not what they cant do. Plus I noted the cars the mechanics have and the abundance of VAG type mags everywhere. If you get my drift. Dont be put off by the outside of the buiding, there was an RS4 in there when i was there last.

My brother just bought an A4 from Pickwicks and the guy certainly sounded like he knew what he was talking about. Said he has been doing Audi's for 20 yrs and has done lots of work in the past on coupe's.

He going to take his car back there for servicing. Might give it a try myself.

istoo - let us know how you get on with Firstdrive. Might be another option for me.

btw - I have the same negative reports about Bavaria. Avoid that one.

They had a heap of 80's the last time i was in .. They fixed the A6 in minutes... dodgy MAF from the other lot i have had grief with, you know who!

These guys are in the same league, all the mechanics are from VW or Audi backgrounds worked on them for decades. This is a garage that I know which had the old WR, and was the possible home for you old black coupe but they had enouigh project cars as it was!

I just used them for cheap servicing but as i have grown to know and trust them. thenameisross as you know i put both my audis for a big service and clean out to another big name garage and for £1000 got two faulty cars back. I iut it elsewhere as moving hosue i thought stonehaven would be too far to drive and collect but i would rather the better service and the car fixed. So hence for sourcing and fixing (in progress) the issues i have helpfully they get the thumbs up from me.

Also heard horror stories about Bavaria (from the trade too), twice I've heard of cars being 'too dear to repair, want me to take it off your hands?', then it appears for sale 2 weeks later at a shocking price.

Avoid Volks Centre in Kingswells. I had valve stem seals done to clear up the noise on my old 2litre, cost too much and only worked for a week. they did a full service too (apparently), and had nothin but problems afterwards, (includin drivers door started leakin after they 'tightened it up a bit' without being asked. they also diagnosed a faulty lambda probe as a choked cat. this surprised me as I'd had the cat emptied when I had a s/s exhaust fitted 2 months earlier, and I left post-haste.

Used Jim King for a while. Fine guy, no complaints about his work generally but...
fuel lines are corroded :
ok, replace them :
they turned out not too bad, so I painted them with (some stuff, cant remember the name right now) :
ok, as long as thats them sorted.
MOT time: recommended actions- replace corroded fuel lines ....... Mad (he's not that cheap either)

latest garage is Argyll motors in Huntly.
he got called out on RAC cos my brakes seized at 9 at night. no roadside repair, so RAC didnt care anymore.
he gave me a motor to get me an the missus home, and phoned me at lunchtime the next day to say he'd stripped down and cleaned both front brakes and replaced seals, and car was ready! cheap-ish too. Definitely goin back there!!!

While we are on the subject, I might as well stick the boot in...

Do not go anywhere near KIRKHILL AUTO SERVICES

The story applies to my Subaru but would be the same story for anything really.

Problem - Head gasket gone
Est - 800 +vat provided theres no problems with heads

They do the work, no probs with heads, turns out I need a new clutch and a radiator recore as well. I tell them to go ahead since. Since I know a clutch is £250, recore £150 and about 2 hrs labour to fit clutch (engine was out anyway). That should be a bill of about £1300 +vat. All the the time they had the car there was no mention of rising bills. At one point I did ask what the total was looking like and the guy joked 'you dont want to know'. Didnt realise he was serious.

Get the final bill - £2650!!!

Some classics in the invioce,
Top up gear box oil, 2.8litres - it doesnt even hold that much!
Replaced the rear boot handle because they reckon it was broken - and that has what to do with fixing the engine?
32 hrs labour - got quotes from 3 other garages and this work should have taken no more than 18 hrs tops.
Head skim & test etc, £380. They send this out to a specialist and I found out through someone else that the specialist charged £190 for that very job. Where did the other £190 come from?

Basically they are arseholes. After asking around it turns out they do this kind of overcharging all the time. An unsuspecting motorist would just pay up. Thats criminal - SO SPREAD THE WORD PLEASE.

As for me - after a bit of argy bargy I got it down to £1900 but thats still about £400 more than I should have paid.

+1 on Firstdrive near Stonehaven. The EGR on my allroad blew up in Aberdeen the day before I had to drive back to Leeds ... these guys saw me same day, got straight to the fault and fixed it with a shim (so I get a boost in fuel economy from the deal). Couldn't recommend more.
