Is it possible to unlock an Audi sat nav (RNS-E DVD model) without the code?

I have found one for sale but not sure whether to take the risk.

I've been looking through my audio manual and it states that audi can supply codes free of charge for audi audio units. I'm not sure if this is for factory fitted units but it's an avenue worth going down.
