Hi everyone
Need some advise on running problems on my car, it's a 2.2kv coupe.
whats happening is it starts fine when cold and when its running if you stop it and restart it it starts fine but if you leave it for just a while ie. stop to get fuel etc it wont start until it has cooled down, it just winds over and over without even trying to fire but if you leave it for a while it will start straight up no hesitation!

Does anyone have any ideas or has this happened to anyone else before?

Thanks for any advise

Russ

Try taking out a spark plug (or using an old spare one) to see if it's sparking when it won't start. If it's sparking you can look at the injection system, maybe pop an injector out and see if there's any fuel...

At a guess: It's probably a thermoswitch that is knackered...

i dont know much about these engines, but my 1.8 4 cyl is pretty similar.... if its warm it wont start for about 7 or 8 seconds, yet if i leave the car for a week it will start first time brilliantly! i think the problem is the warm up regulator on mine, not sure about yours, might possibly be similar problem

This sounds like it is a problem with one or more of the tempreture senders. The ones to start with are the ones located on the main water inlet to the cylinder head, these are renownd for causing all kinds of may hem with starting and running. Good Luck!

It could be the accumulator is buggered. They stop the petrol evaporating in the injector tubes when the engines hot by holding it under pressure. Try flicking the starter two or three times to engage the pump and bring up system pressure (wait till it stops buzzing between 'flicks'). Then try starting it normaly with no throttle. Hopefully the flicks will have purged the air from the tubes...
