if you look at my other posts I had to buy new headlights for the MOT(adjusters not holding alignment). To cut a long story short took the Car for it's MOT yesterday(passed ok) but the headlights are only just aligned. The H & V adjustment is on it's limit and the beam could do with going a little higher. The same is with the L & R the Beam needs to move a little more to the left. Are there any other beam adjusters(maybe within the light unit) that I could try? The Car is a 2003 model. Thanks.

Headlight aim is affected by 4 things (this presumes the C5 A6 is very similar to the b5 A4):

1) Position of the headlight unit within the chassis – There is some control here with the mounting bolts, but not much and it is only meant to adjust the unit such that it is flush with the rest of the bodywork.
2)3Position of the adjusters – there are 2 on each unit, one to control up/dwn and one to control left/right aim – These should be used to set aim.
3) Position of the “catch” for the electric up/dwn adjuster motor within the unit – This is a tricky one. When you buy a new headlight unit you need to “guess” this position and then fit the adjuster motor  this is probably where you need to look at for your problem
4) Ensure your bulbs are properly seated, if not this can cause problems with the aim.

Hope this helps
