Sent my A4 B8 2.0 TFSI to be checked over, due to excessive oil onsumption, and now, black smoke from exhaust. Audi trained mechanic informed my mechanic, that this particular engine has issues with these symptoms. To cut a long story short, crankcase breather and oil seal have been mentioned, as well as an ECU remap. Guy informed me that Audi are aware of such issues, but (obviously!) have kept it quiet. Due to the fact that the car has FASH, I've been told,(not by Audi!), that I may get some goodwill.

Booked in for June 13th, I'll update you with the results, although, I expect a hefty bill either way!

The joys of motoring.

Update on this issue.

Just received word from Glasgow Audi, that the cause of my excessive oil consumption, was the piston in No.2 cylinder. The nice chap from the service department didn't go into detail as to what the actual problem was, however he very assertively informed me that it would cost 4500 to repair! The silence from me was deafening, as I considered my options, (1) Gallon of petrol and a match, (2) trade-in, or (3) sell it on privately to some other mug! However, after a few seconds the reason for his assertiveness was made clear. As the car had a full Dealership service history, Audi would offer Goodwill in this instance. Before I could ask "how much?", He said the magic words, "Audi will cover the full amount of the repair!" When I went to pick the car up today, I could see on the job card, that the work was to be "treated as warranty"
What a result! I've gone from fear and trepidation, to elation in the space of 20 secs.

Thanks Audi, and let this be a lesson to you guys, get your work done at the Dealership. Just in case.
Very Happy

That's me sorted. 4 Pistons and con-rods replaced, car running like a dream, and no black smoke. Will keep an eye on oil consumption, but don't expect any problems!

Remember, any issues re. oil consumption, take it straight into your local dealership, as they will not issue a recall for this, but quietly do it under goodwill.

Well done Audi. Very Happy

Quick update;
Since having the work done, the car has been running as sweet as as nut, and I haven't had to top-up the oil yet. (Although I've only done about 2000 miles since), So, problem sorted and cured.
Cool

This is a link to a recent Watchdog programme re. oil consumption in Audi 2.0 TFSI engines.

Apologies for the double post, I meant to post on this thread rather than the previous one.
