My 2.3 20v has 120,000 on the clock and still drives like new. However, although I always use genuine oil filters, i'm never too sure which oil to use.

I used to use Synta (silver) in my previous 2.0 8v 80's but I heard that Synta (gold) was better for my engine. I rang my local dealer who told me that... "Audi are trying to distance themselves from the Quantum range and hence they no longer stock it. I'd have to go to the VW dealer down the road" Confused

So what's it to be...

Synta (silver)
Synta (gold)
Mobil 1
Magnatec
Or something else...!

Cheers all

You can't go wrong with Synta Gold. Stay away from Magnatec, as I've found that my 20v eats the stuff.
Nice to see another 20v in Cheshire Smile

I asked this question about a week ago and everybody suggested Synta Gold, so that's what I bought.

Haven't changed it yet though, 20v engine still sounds sweet even though the oil is due for a change.

Everyone pointed me in this direction so it must be good!!

Cheers.

I use nothing but Syntha gold now. GSFCarParts also do it. Check their website to see if they are near you too. £19 for 5 litres and £2.50 for a genuine filter.

Audi are selling Synta oil quite cheaply, must be the cheapest thing they sell. Shame the filters aren`t as cheap. Evil or Very Mad

Have always used Synta Gold since a bad experience of Synta Silver. Rally car has Mobil 1 but not sure which one as they do two. A 0-40 and a 15-50. Everything is OK with whatever is in it. Might be tempted to try Castrol RS 10-60 as it will protect to 'ultra high' temperatures which is ideal for streesed engine such as rally cars!

10-40 should be Ok here in Scotland as it never warms up enough to need a higher grade oil (v.cold today) Crazy
