Morning chaps. I was doing some regular work on my 90q yesterday and noticed some play in the inner CV joints. I held the joint tight and turned the wheel slightly and there was a couple of inches of play at the wheel rim This was accompanied by a grinding noise as well. The front are worse than the rears. I'm also getting quite a lot of driveline shunt as well, which is something I've experienced of all my previous Quattro's. The car drives fine, apart from the shunt. Should there be any play in the Inners? Methinks not.

Is that not just free play in the gearbox.

Was the car in gear for this test ?

Hi Mike. I had it in gear and held the joint tight so that the outer case of the joint didn't move. I the turned the wheel just slightly and the shaft was turning inside the joint. There was a couple of inches of movement at the wheel rim.
