Hi,

My mechanic says my ‘N’ reg 80 Avant needs a new steering rack. Confused I mentioned that I’d seen repair kits (seals) mentioned on here but he shook his head slowly and assured me the rack is worn out. (Damn!) I see second-hand items on eBay but harbour concerns that they say not be in the best shape. Then again, this IS an old car and my pockets are not bottomless! Any thoughts or suggestions? In the very first instance, I should establish what part number(s) I should be looking for: anyone know - or can anyone advise where on the rack I might locate the relevant part number?
