**********SOME PICS UNAVAILABLE DUE TO HACKER IN 07....REPLACED WITH WHAT I HAD LEFT, SORRY**********

seeing as the biggest item i ever have in my boot is a big bag of cat litter i thought sod it and go the whole hog..........

only just started so no comments on how bad it looks thanx, plenty to do yet.

everthing will be removeable
thought i would share my plans with other cabbers as there ain't much out there on cab installs.

to maximise volume i moulded the rear of the box using the old boot inlay with fibreglass then built up with filler the give a rigid finish. far from finished as i have to re-locate amp above spare wheel, optima battery to be fitted to the right side compartment and monoblock amp on the left with digital power cap. must be finished for 9th april as this is doncaster custom show. went last year but was unhappy with boot build.......oh and its all done on a budget, honset. in fairness it,s cost me very little as i have sold my nitro buggy on ebay and this has funded most of it......

about 100 inc MDF/fibreglass matting/resin/filler, you always need more than you think. got all the hardware cheap from ebay. all brand new from the states. even paying duty beats paying uk prices.

example.

audiobahn a8000t monoblock 800w rms bridgable amp in chrome and built in cooling fan. uk rrp 320

audiobahn aw1251se 12" subs in chrome flame design 2ohm to 8ohm compatible 400 to 800rms cheapest uk 80 each

audiobahn acap3p 1 farad power cap in chrome with led readout, uk rrp 150

630 worth. i payed 340 inc shipping and duty.

not bad at all coatsie, i'm looking at buying a friends 900.1 monoblock and 2 JL W7's Smile should be enough bass then .... mine sounds fine with the roof up but as soon as it goes down or you move at more than 20mph it dissapears ... i know it'll be bass heavy as fark when the roof is up now but it'll sounds great when the roof's down this time Smile

plus it's all being sold the first hot sunny weekend we get Smile

those w7's cost a fortune, especially the new type. a typical 12" (actually 13.5") sub in a sealed box sell for a grand +

he sold them for 400 on friday night Sad ... i've got the 900.1d mono block though ... but i've put it in and to be honest there's not that much more bass just a HELL of a lot more rattles cancelling out the extra bass so i think i'll not buy it as i can't really afford it anyway.

almost there .... when i put 50 miles away i thought i was but it was more like 200 ... i'll deffo hit it this week though

more pics, far from finished but coming on slow.

the logo was cut by jig saw using 5mm thick aluminum then highly polished, the floor & baffle board are done in beach laminate and all the fibreglass area's will be smoothed & color coded to car.....

Hi

Looks good, what with the scuttle shake from the front and the bass from the back you should get a good massage! Serously, I see you have a spare wheel in the boot well, my car came with a deflated emergency spare and compressor, could you specify a full sized spare as an option?

hi julian,

yeh should be thumping when done. as for the spare it would stand proud of the boot floor thus meaning you to modify your boot floor trim. physically it will fit but obviously you will loose boot space. you will need to check if the new wheel fits the clamping bolt location.

MEASUREMENTS MY DEAR WATSON.

yeh it's a close call but the spare does wiggle out. all cables will be long enough to allow removal of the amp out of the car to gain access.

hmmmm ... i'm really wondering if i should make an install now .... i've been thinking about selling the cab all year but now that i've had the roof down a few times i'm tempted to keep it for another year. if i do then it needs lowering and the stereo needs putting in nicely as it look terrible as it was just thrown back in last weekend lol.

battery compartment took bloody hours to fathom out as the fuel tank pretrudes out from the baffle board and it's curved, "hot glue gun" does wonders..........

nealy there but not looking forward to smoothing the panels or dismantling of the whole lot for wiring up......

had a test run of the amp & subs using the old pwer cable without the power cap fitted as i still have to re-route the "zero gauge" cable through the car.....

the subs have been wired to run at 2ohms thus giving the amp twice the out put "1600w rms".

well, first thoughts were not bad but expected much much more thump bearing in mind i only had 1 sub in a small box befor.

after dicking around with the head unit i got good sound "so i thought"...

you see, after another look at the manual to see whats what i only noticed i had plugged one of the rca cables into the line out easily done as they are together.

now we are firing on all cylinders, what a sound and the subs ain't properly secured in yet. well pleased with it just need to get it finished now.

After many hours sanding all the panels i painted them in the garage with color match paint from my local car paints & panel shop. 10 a tin and took 4 in total plus 2 clearcoat.

i must say i am very pleased with the look of this install as well as the sound!

when i had the single jbl sub located in the left side of the boot it was good for bass but because it was blasting straight into the boot it caused quite a bit of distortion from out side as in the bumper and number plate surround use to rattle.

now that i have them pointing into a box all this distortion has stopped and now i can pull up at the lights and keep the sounds up rather than turn it down lol....................

next thing is to fit 15" lcd screen to boot lid and 2 or 4 6x9's running off a dvd or playstation. sounds mad but it's the in thing at shows plus makes a great party piece when sat around at a camp site!!!!!!!!

cotsie u got a sick ride and an even sicker system - prob the best ive seen

As you know im in the process of hookin a system up in my cab, got a fat pioneer mpx headunit - real nice - got an alpine V12 amp - very nice too

got a huge box with 2 x 10" subs in my audi 80 at the mo, but dont think the box will fit!!

So custome is the way to go with cabs i think

I want to upgrade the car speakers as well, is this missions??

The original speakers in my old 80 were pretty dam good, seeing as i only had 3 of them!!! and my subs runnin of the amp, good all round sound in the front - way too much bass if you were in the back!! Thankfully i never was!

But now i want to make my cab sound right, so comments will be appreciated..

Anyways, once again - your system is foOkin rude man, am well impressed.

this may sound mad to some people, having a tv in the boot but it makes a great party piece when camping out and if you fancy watching a dvd or music video. all sound comes from the stereo.

All will be finished in fibreglass and some component speakers.

will keep you posted.
