I'm about to have quite a bit of work done on my coupe 20v, one of the jobs is changing the oil.

What is the best oil to use, the engine's done 137k but runs pretty sweet, is it better to go with semi or fully synthetic?

Also is it best to buy the oil from my local audi dealer, I'm getting some of the parts from German & Swedish and they have Quantum, is this any good for my engine?

Appreciate any advice coz I want to use the best for the engine.

Thanks

Quantum Synta
gold is fine for your engine - should be about 15 quid for 5 litres. If you are on a budget, Quantum Synta silver is a synthetic base oil

I have Quantum Synta Gold in my 20v. Runs quiet and the temp stays low, even on fast long runs.
Avoid Magnatec, I found it got hot, and my engine was eating it.

So Quantum Synta Gold is ok to put in the engine then?

I'll get some when I pick up the idler and water pump from German and Swedish.

BTW this is the first time I've bought anything from them, has anybody used them in the past, or present, if so how did you find them and their parts?

Thanks for the info on the oil, I want to keep my engine purrrrrring!!!

Oh yeah, is it worth chucking slick50 in at all or is a good oil enough??

Cheers.

They`re ok for service bits and bobs, while you`re in there get yourself a supply of Original oil filters £3-£4 each Evil or Very Mad

I noticed the oil filter thing, £3 + VAT, well cheap for genuines, I'll get myself a good stock of those.

What do you think of the slick50 thing, worth a shot or not?

Thanks for the info so far guys, well appreciated.

Slick 50 is one of those things that no one can prove works or not, like putting lead balls in your tank to run on unleaded fuel.Much better to spend your cash on some good oil.I`ve always found valvoline oils good but i guess everyone will tell you to use their favorite brand.

Avoid Synta Silver at all cost! When pushing the car hard the oil temp increases and this oil can not cope! I switched to Synta Gold with no such problems. Mobil 1 is used on my new 20v car but tempted to use Castrol RS 10/60 The 10 bit is cold rating and 60 is the highest temp rating. The lower the first number the better protection when cold. The higher the second number the better protection at extreme temperatures.
Have fun!

Thanks guys.

I've just bought Quantum Synta Gold, should keep the engine in good nick.

I'm not going to put Slick 50 in coz this oil should be good enough and to be honest I don't really drive the car that hard!!

Just hard enough to have fun though!

Thanks for all the advice, I also got myself a good stock of oil filters, at £3 for genuine ones you can't go wrong.

Thanks again.
