Hello - hope I'm in the right forum. Here is my query. I have recently bought an 1994 Audi 80 2.0E. I notice that there is a switch or knob which is supposed to adjust the beam height. However you can turn this to any setting and nothing happens. Let me say that as yet I have not even lifted the bonnet to investigate but I do need to get it sorted. So if anyone out there can maybe point me in the right direction I would appreciate it. Is it a common problem? A squirt of WD maybe? Hope so!
Thanks very much in advance.

Are you sure they definately aren`t working as the adjustment is slight and used to lower the beam when carrying a heavy load "0" being standard height. Each headlight has a motor which you can hear from the outside with the bonnet open. |

Nose the car up to a light coloured wall, in the dark (of failing light), and switch on dipped beam. If the adjusters are working you will see the beam pattern move on the wall when you operate the adjuster knob. If nothing happens, start by checking for a blown fuse, - and make sure a previous owner has not replaced the headlamps with non-motorised versions, (unlikely, but possible). |

Thanks for input. I had a quick look tonight after work and nothing can be heard with the bonnet open when er indoors is twiddling the knob, so I.m sure it is not working.
Leem - I will check fuse as soon as I get chance. Anything else it could be?

Ta for that Locomotion - is there a quick way of checking switch? I will of course check the fuse first. I will keep you posted if I find anything.

You need to get to the motors so you can check electrical out put or pull the switch and check plug connection. |
