audi 100 c4 (E GEAR)

HI

i have been looking at a audi 100 c4

it has the 2.5tdi and 140k on the clock,but i have noticed under 5th gear there is a gear marked E.

is this just a 6th gear? i cant find anything on searches,also could someone tell me if this is a good engine compared with the 1z in the audi 80.

i had a audi 80 and sold it last year and bought a mondeo and have regretted it since! i have been looking for another audi 80 but came across this audi 100

Yes its a 6 speed, E for economy. Word is that it does 70mph @1800rpm or therabouts.

I think you'll find 70 is about about 2100 rpm in 6th. It is on mine. A fine m-way cruiser.

Is it a 100 or A6? '94 is the changeover year. 100 came with 2.4 80hp 5 pot diesel or the 2.5TDI 115 hp (code AAT).

A6 kept the 115bhp AAT but also added the "red I" 140bhp AEL engine. 6 speed was standard on the 140 bhp cars and optional on the 115 bhp ones.

Both 2.5TDI variants are fine engines and very durable provided they get oil changes and the cam belt is done when it's due. Mine is fit and well at 264k (plenty around higher still) and still manages 50 mpg.
