Audi 80 (B4) 1.6

Looks like I have acquired one of these cars - anyone got any useful info on them? (other than what is on wikipedia)

Found out to my surprise that they are quoted at 101bhp!!

Are they a twin cam? I guess they must be because the 2.0 8v is only 90/115 bhp

Single cam.
Two 1.6 engines available in the B4 80,

ABM - 01/92 > 06/94, 52kw - 71hp,
ADA - 07/93 > 07/95, 71kw - 100hp.

Well picked the car up today and had a look at the engine bay for the first time. Cam covers tells me it's the ADA engine so should be 101 bhp. Feels like I'm driving with the brakes on after the S2 Sad

However, feels nice and solid but needs a few things sorted.

Exhaust is loose at the back and blowing at the front (probably related). Reversing lights aren't working (is this an MOT failure ?)

Crack in back bumper - not sure if this can be welded otherwise it's a scrappy hunt!

New antenna needed

Think the oil leak is coming from the camcover (as you suspected Mike)

Although broken dipstick will not help the issue

Brakes felt spongy aftert the S2 but could just be the difference in feel (vacuum servo Nog Very Happy

). Missing cap on the fluid reservior means a full bleed is needed.

Interior not too bad, just needs a clean (not as bad as yours Jas Laughing

) although a new gaiter on the gearstick will be on the list and maybe a sports steering wheel if funds allow once it's all sorted.

Petrol guage was reported as u/s but does move. Coolant gauge didn't rise that much either so thermostat change and coolant replacement will be on the cards. I suspect the clock binnacle circuit board needs a clean (as my S2's did) to rectify this

Need a bit of trim for the rear window winder if anyone has one?

Boot needs sorting Laughing

Might find the window winder trim etc. in there

Wife noticed that the reversing lights didn't work (is this an MOT failure?)

Hopefully the list from the MOT station won't be a big one (or at least not an expensive one) and so this will be a runner and not a scrapper.

Is it not just an orange dipstick tube holder needed. They are only a few quid.

"If" I can stretch to the S2avant rear bumper I've been offered, then you can buy mine? it'll cheap, and has no cracks apart from some in the paint itself.

Window winder cover....hmm,

Saw those orange holders on ebay so did wonder - cool

However, only UK one listed doesn't seem to suit the 80. I can't imagine they will be that dear from a dealer ? Confused

That winder cover is the right part but wrong color - interior is a beige colour. Thanks for the offer though. Wink

I'd get onto vagparts about the dipstick funnel.
Just bought one for the sooty monster, and although it looks "identical" to the others, it's not. It's a different length.
Best get the right one first time Wink

Cheers Jas - I'll try Cameron's on Monday as if it is only a couple of quid then by time add postage it will be just as cheap to go to the dealer.

They are quite a good car Owen, good on juice too, I had one for a while and was impressed at the 1.6 ADA, dip stick holder only a couple of quid from any VW shop such as Volkspares they are always breaking, cam belt around £8 which is handy. Evil or Very Mad

Hi Owen,

Looks to be a good 'un after a bit of work. Does it have a current MoT or is that on the 'to do' list and hence your queries about reversing lights etc.?
Not the prettiest of colours, but we know why you've bought it so colour ain't the top priority Wink

A good clean inside and out followed by a polish and wax then a set of 10-spokes and you'll be a happy(ish) bunny.

Al, belive it or not I actually like that colour. 2nd only to Kingfisher blue Laughing

No MOT (booked inTuesday) so need to get that shopping list and then see what needs to be done.

It's a '94 M car but doesn't have the folding rear seats that some had.

Thanks, I thought it was - don't mind the colour at all. Spent most of today cleaning it out. It will still need the Vax treatment but a bit cold at the moment.

Hope so, will know more Tuesday when it goes for MOT (see how big and how expensive the shopping list is).

The exhaust is loose and blowing but just seen that the mount that has broken is a seperate part (8A0 253 661A) so will give Camerons a ring tomorrow. Smile

Can't find a part number for the orange bit of the dipstick though, just the whole dipstick (053 115 611C) Confused

Back bumper is a bit worse than first thought. Aside from the crack in the corner, the car looks like it has been used to dispose of hedge cuttings and so the top of the bumper is scratched and gouged.

If anyone sees an 80 saloon in a scrappy in Titan Grey with a good bumper can you let me know please ?

I bet that colour trim is not to popular? so i would consider fitteg 2 black covers instead + they match the rollors Cool

You could well be right Nog - car was serviced up to 52500 then nothing recorded until 103856.

Last MOT/service was at 140,000 miles and it's on 143000 now - only did 3000 miles last year.

Will bleed fluid for my preferred brand regardless (Lucas DOT 5.1).

Mike's mate has an 80 Avant in his scrappy so will find out what interior is in that. Apparently there are a few 80's at a breakers near Edniburgh too so will try them.

Avant rear seat back is different from Saloon's, so it won't fit...(?)
