well i though i was stealing martins thread a bit so here is a bit about my 90. Got the roof painted tonight gone for gloss black on the roof and down the A and C pillars. Got the arches sorted after a massive mishap of widening the arches with the old suspension on and when i put all the series 3 items on it widened the track and pushed the wheels back in to the arches so that they caught when you drove over a playing card!!
so to solve this problem i got out my super technical angle grinder and took the lips id made back off and flared the rest of the arches up.
so for the next little list of things is to get it laserlined at work as she crabs a bit at the moment prime up my arches and then wip it into the booth at work and put the bottom colour on. and the colour im going with is hot chocolate brown its a metallic colour off the new mini clubman and in my opinion is totaly wasted on the pieces of shite also going to do my wheels with it at the same time gona keep the centres black and paint the rims brown should hopefully be ready in a couple of weeks then i can get on with driving it like i bought it for. |

well here we go then after all night friday after work, all day saturday i was nearly ready 4 some good old fashioned paint splattering after a major set back of my boss being a knob all week and bombing me off from borrowing the booth i decided to just carry on and spray away out side. luckily i think i got the most perfect day for this so 13hours, 4rolls of tape, umpteen newspapers, 4coats of base, 3coats of lacquer and about 3000 cups of tea i got there
at the start on sat morning ready to mask up (on my newly found 14" alleycats)
then masked up (with charlie the cat there ready to do my head in all day)
doing my dropcoat
my super expensive top of the range spray booth
all based up and ready for 3 coats of lacquer
here she is with the rims of the alloys painted as well just need to paint the front and rear spoilers and black out the sill covers
will get some better photos of the colour when the sun comes out! what you think? cheers Graeme |

looking really good there Graeme
Colour looks interesting and the rims look ace too. not sure about the strecthed tyres but maybe it would all come together once bumpers are back on. Are you putting a body kit on? i notice that you have completely left the side trim untouched??? |

the angle of the pic makes them look closer than they are wasnt gona put this pic up due to it looking shakey but you can see the gap better on them. the tyres are 195's on a 8" rim never had any trouble with leaks and never had one come off so carry on fitting them no bodykit going on but i am putting bumpers back on looking for a set of good 80 bumpers as i dont like the big 90 ones that came on the car. what part do you mean by the side trim? ive still to clean all the trims up round the windows and im gonna black the sills out but im not putting the mouldings back on |

Yeh that pic makes more sense still looks pretty tight! I know what Geoff means about the overstretched tyres seems to a popular thing these days though. Do the outer edge of the tyres extend beyond the wheelarch? |

no the tread is covered by the arch only the sidewall sticks out a bit but the sidewall has no grip so cant fling water up and cant catch ppl if i hit them (like getting a finger caught in a tyre tread would be your first worry if you got knocked down!! ) thats what the law and mot ppl ask for.
covered enough for my liking |

The car looks great. nice work.
As for the stretch and itslegality I agree with you as I have asked an MOT tester the same question and he said the same, tread must be under the arch to stop spray.
As for safety, well when I first ever seen stretched tyres like this I thought WTF that is an accident waiting to happen, and refused to listen to anyone telling me otherwise until I found out that Ameteur drifters use stretched tyres as the stretch stiffens up the sidewall making it easier to control the drift. So if they can go sideways at 50mph on them then they must be pretty safe. |

didn't mean to come across as a bitch about the tyres was more a personal choice type opinion for me on aesthetics. But I must admit though, they are growing on me now |

its ok i dont mind ppl have differnt views on what they like i personally dont like the look of ballon sidewalls but i also dont like the tyre to look as though it was sprayed on the rim each to there own. oh and the kerbing thing is bad i drove onto a kerb at work meaning to park in it and the things still bloody caught |

Each to their own is the beauty of cars! I love looking at how peoples views differ in what they do and don't like - I can respect your liking those wheels but have to admit they wouldn't be for me - I read this on another forum but it made me think of you:
"It looks like you bought the wheels but couldn't afford the tyres"

And real ones! Are they not illegal? I though they were but am willing (and hoping) to be proved wrong! Although I did see a Dodge Viper yesterday with them on - I thought I heard they weren't legal for the UK market. |

Andy correct on both scores..MOT does not stipulate where an Exhaust exits the vehicle (or even if it does). As long as it is not "exessively" noisy its ok.. |
