I have finally made a start on my car. It is a CQ20v, the engine was modified by GTi Engineering when it was new to make it a 2.4.
You can read about the conversion they done by CLICKING HERE
This is how it looked in the ad I seen for it.
GTi Engineering steering wheel
The receipt from GTi Engineering
I had it on the rolling road last year
Now it is time to get a lot of the parts refurbed. underneath is looking pretty grim so I bought a pile of poly bushes and a few tins of paint to start with.
Strut brace and wishbones
Oil Cooler
I started ripping things off yesterday.
Front subframe off
After lots of bashing
Cutting
and burning I got the old bushes out
Also degreased the subframe and front anti-roll bar ready for some paint tomorrow. |

That gear knob has gotta go
Spot on otherwise
Noticed on the graph that there's a loss of 58.4 hp between engine and wheels, am I reading that right? seems a lot.

Superb!
That is going to be an excellent example of a CQ20V! |

Ninenails, the whole interior will be changed including dashboard due to this.
Have a brand new OEM gear gaitor and OEM mats front and back, along with cream leather.
When I bought the car it was covered up with carbon fibre look wallpaper
I am unsure about the power losses, it sparked off a big debate on S2 forum the last time I posted it. It goes well and I was pulling away from my mates Vento VR6 on the way to the rolling road so I was happy.
Not sure where the losses would come from? but I will be replacing all bushes underneath including engine gearbox and diff mounts. may as well give changing the gearbox oil a try when I am under there too. I have a lot more goodies to go on but will update some of that later, and when I have more pics. |

33% power loss is about right for a quattro. |

the quattro drive train loses a lot 30-35% from memory.
I always wondered personally if you could improve the efficiency ie really good CV joints? make sure the wheels bearings are perfect etc.
hibby nice to see, very keen on seeing how this progresses.. did wonder what had happened but glad to see your giving it some needed love! As for the lost ponies? Age I would guess but gong through the parts one at a time will help matters as small as they may seem. Ask the 20v regulars, still all new for me! |

Gave the subframe and ARB a buff with a wire brush on an angle grinder today in preparation for painting them.
Here is a half done pic of the ARB to give an idea of the difference it has made.

Got the subframe back on and fitted the 034 motorsport spec gearbox mounts. Also fitted the FARB from an S2 as it was a larger diameter.
I forgot to charge my camera battery so no pics. |

I am impressed with the goodies that 034 have for sale, the mounts look sexy too, hope they perform as good as they look.
Also Mike Dewar is a top man for providing the torque settings I needed on his site.
Going to be giving the engine mounts a try next, does anyone have any tips?
Can I support the engine from underneath with a jack and some wood? or do I need to get one of the supports that fits on either side of the bonnet?
I have never tried stuff like this before, I am learning it all from Audifans. |

If you do the wood and jack method - surely changing one side at a time you should be ok
(don't know never done it myself......yet)
There again you don't want too much pressure, if any on the sump |

Cheers Owen, is he ok?
It was Mike who inspired me to go ahead and give all this a try when he came through and helped/taught me how to replace the dizzy and set up the timing last year.
Made a post in the relevant section. |

Istoo if you never try you will never learn, so im just bashing in as best as I can.
Here is a pic of what the engine, gearbox and dif mounts look like.
Such a shame they have to go where nobody will see them.
Today's progress was interior stripped out
With a little help from my mechanic
He done a better job than most of the mechanics I have ever had work on my Audis
And stripped out this pile of mess that the last guy had left for me.
I was going to use his wiring but it is bodged together and I really don't trust it, he also had 6x9s behind the rear door cards held in place with about half a ton of MDF so out it all came. |

The parts from 034 look like very heavy duty pieces of kit |

completely agree, i took the interior apart in the coupe just before i sold it and was amazed that it went back together! So well engineered it helps somewhat!
034 motorsport i could theoretically go bankrupt on that site with ease. What else have you bought from there! |

Not actually bought anything direct from 034 yet, everything has been people changing their minds as to what they want to use. Also got the Phenolic intake manifold Spacer to go on at some time.

BTW the mechanic belongs to a neighbour but he likes to help me out, he was manky last week when we removed the wishbone bushes I need to get him to wear some safety boots though |

Used some foam tredair underlay for under the carpet and shoved in a black carpet from an Audi 80 I found in the scrappys, Was a lot more hassle than what I thought but after a lot of cursing I finally got it in.
I then had a fight with the heater duct wiring as it was not turning the flaps inside the ducts to change direction of the blowing.
Also now have the dash back in and after a lot of confusion as to what plugs in where and losing the :bang: diff lock wires under the carpet I finally got it in and the car started to make sure I had done all the essentials correctly (like the immobiliser).
Looking like this just now.
White S2 binnacle and aux gauges also installed.
Gonna have a wee break and get some grub then crack on a bit more with it. |

The wires on mine attatch to a plug and not just spade connectors onto the socket Istoo, I remembered your post a while ago and was a bit worried about that actually. I just lost the plug under the carpet for a while.
Aye Owen I am a regular out there as there is a few things they don't know the real price off so I normally snap them up. But our cars seem to be few and far between out there recently, they have only had 1 coupe and 1 saloon in for the last while. Quite a few A3 and a4s though.
The heavens opened just as I was going back out so rained off for a bit, still roasting though. |
