Sounds like a problem with your cold start valve need to get it cjecked out by an injection specialist |

Gday Ihad exactly the same problem with my *) sport . Ichanged the cold start valve and thermo time switch but it made no difference. In the end it turned ou to be the warm up regulator. Fitted a secondhand one and it fired up straight away and has ran perfectly hot or cold ever since

No, i think youre thinking of the metering head. The warm up regulator is on the engine itself. Right handside of the engine on the head itself. About midway from front to back. If i remember rightly it has one pushon electrical connection and two bango connections for the two braided fuel lines, 10 min job to change.

I changed the injectors in my 16v because some were leaking. Starts much better now but still isnt perfect. Seems to start on 3cyls sometimes when warm starting. Once revved, it is fine. |

This type of fault is often the multifunction temperature sender. |

I have a manual for this model in German, got it from Ebay Germany.
You are welcome to use it for the price of posting it to you. The earlier 80 manual covers 16v, they never made a manual for the B4 model. |

Warm up reg bolted to the right hand side of block as you look at it, if not follow the 2 smaller fuel pipes from the metering unit that dont go to the injectors |

Sorry to disappoint you guys, but I dont think the 16v has a warm-up regulator, rather the cold enrichment is determined by the ECU and supplied by increasing the current at the differential pressure regulator. The main thing that the ecu reads from during warmup is the coolant temperature sensor, and to some extent the air flow potentiometer for acceleration enrichment when cold.
I think the warm-up regulator relates to older K-jetronic cars such as golf mk1's and older series Audi's. The 16v motor has a KE-Motronic ECU. |

Differential pressure regulator and warm up regulator often get mixed and effectively perform the same function. Difference is the DFP is attached to the metering head while the warm up reg goes on the side of the block. Can't recall when the change happened but I think it was late 80s / early 90s. |
