Well i thought i should finally make a thread for my car since it looks like i'll be goign a bit crazy with it....
THought sweep was a fitting name after looking through some projects on here lol, hope its not already taken
well heres a picture of when i bought it....
the car i was told had a blown headgasket that was causing overheating, i got the car home, checked for the obvious h/g signs but nothing...but i'm not going to argue with a garage..they do this for a living!...so changed that..then had some issues with the ecu timing being out for some reason?!?!?! after all that had the same overheating..turned out it was a cloged water pump, blasted that out and problem solved
so then the modifications began....first leccy windows and a full s2 avant interior with carbon swapped in my Alpine headunit and my sub, 3 spoke steering wheel...will post pics later...
now yesterday my tubo blew, probably because up until 2 days ago i had a monster boost leak. so now i will be replacing/refurbing the turbo, egr delete, 0.216 injectors and a remap.
body wise...s ofar nothing..but thinking about S2 bumpers and side skirt, definately body-colouring the lot tho!!
brakes....its getting my old cq20v brakes as they are being upgraded.
wheels....as yet undecided apart from they will be 16"
drivetrain....this is the it i am excited about, following James' thread on quattro conversion i am going to give it a go...if it is bolt on then great...if not never mind. assuming it is..i have the full rear setup ready and will be sourcing a 6 speed quattro box to go in too, btw if anyone wants to agree dissagree with the technical side of the quattro conversion can you do it on the other thread...
cheers

I think Owen's project Titan was called Sweep in it's early days, but the name didn't stick
Looks like a nice clean car and an ambitious conversion plan, good luck |

Cheers Guys,
well jumping straight in, just agreed to buy a 6 speed quattro gearbox and s2 avant rear end so no going back now.... cant decide on wheels tho... i want 16" and must be 4 stud, my friend has offered me some caterham wheels with some dish that i think could look good in black...any other ideas?
And dont worry Pete, the 20v is moving along...just slowly is all.. besides all it needs to be on the road again is a power steering pump...just dont need two cars atm....well, could be useful now that my one working one is bust lol

6-speed should be interesting to see in the tdi and what it pulls like? just watch those caterham boys i know they sometimes use different pcd's on the front and back for some reason! Also on the wheels look towards the ford stuff as they the same pcd (4x108) and they often dont mind letting the wheels go cheap not like those bloody vw boys!!! |

yeah, unfortunately i forgot to mention the gearbox needed to be quattro so still on the lookout for a box....the caterham wheels are on a cq already...
looking at the ford ones...what you guys think to the 4 spoke mondeo wheels?? was thinking they may be cool in black??....

everything is cool in black the ones on that coupe would look better in my eyes but the mondeo wheels would be different and i think they still look better than some of the shocking wheels on sale out there |

its a shame that the Ford and Peugeot wheels are associated with a particular car sometimes, as they are generally very high quality wheels - and cheap 2nd hand! Those Caterham ones are great, but don't paint them black! The dish won't stand out |

To be fair my housemate has some Avev As which are painted black and i'd say the dish is just as obvious if not more in fact....will take a pic of my avant with the avavs perhaps give me a better idea of what they might look like.....
what you guys recon about spings btw?? wanting around 40mm lowering but not too stiff....this car is just a commuter lol......

general opinion is on Audi Sport springs, which give a drop of about 20mm, but if you want to go lower, its down to opinion. If you drop it 40mm, it will be quite a bit stiffer, and I don't think there's any one setup that has been agreed on here - my 80 is lowered 40mm, and is stiff and uncomfortable on Spax, but it goes round corners sooooooooooooo well (compare to 'standard' height coupe next to it)
Audioc's 90 (below) is stiff as well, but I don't know what setup he has - others say theirs are quite smooth when lowered

available from dealers, or from www.vagparts.com as far as I'm aware - and not as expensive as you may think. Just make sure you have decent shocks as well, or it could get choppy |

A good setup that seems to have favoured results in handling, lowering and comfort, is Koni shocks with Audi Sport Springs. You will find that the 20mm drop, although it doesn't sound much, gives a pleasing look, improved handling with very little difference comfyness plus you don,t have to be careful at driving down roads with speed bumps
IIRC Andy's black 90 (last pic) is dropped 40mm, and to be fair, it's a fairly comfortable ride, better than it looks like it would anyway Maybe get them bump stops sorted though hey One Cam |

I'm not sure how low my avant is but its low
getting some bigger rims on it at some point then might lower it a bit more |

40mm drop is not bad if you stay on 15's or 16's but go up to 17's & above and it's a not so great ride

I'm on a 60mm drop with spax.
On 16's with 55 profiles, it's not bad to be honest, but when it was on 17's with 40 profile..............
BANG, CRASH, BANG, BANG, CRASH, BANG, JUDDER, SHAKE, CRASH BANG.
Awful. |
