Just thought i'd share because it might help someone else.

I've had an odd knocking noise on and off for a couple of weeks (read my last posts) and its been hard to track down!

Its basically the passengers side gearbox mount, all the other mounts are filled with oil but this one is a solid mount and had become weak. Audi changed the design for the very last cars built (maybe prone to failure?) and i ordered the later one (mines a very late car anyway).

Fitted it (20 mins, dead easy) and its completly fixed. The part was £39 with 10% discount.

Hope this might help someone!

Neil, can you describe the knocking noise? I have a knocking which only happens when I accellerate hard, thought its was the suspension, had it all done but its still there, its just a couple of clunks on pull away.

Thats it exactly mate, mine was pulling away hardish and normally when steering was turned a little.

I removed my old mount and filled with "tigerseal" to prove it was this that was making the noise, it cured it after a few days (when it had set i think) so i ordered the mount straight away.

Ive the old one here if your local?

Neil,

We are in Salisbury, so a bit far but would like more info, so I can get the part for my 2.3 cabbie.

Cheers

Its the passengers gearbox mount you want, not the engine mount. Its 3 allen key bolts and a 17mm (i think!) bolt, dead easy to change
