Hi, just joined the Audi fans and have been replacing the front shocks etc.

The units I obtained have different top mounts to my old ones in that the originals have deeper recessed cups and the replacements are flat. I assumed that these would be common to this model and therefore did not think to check before fitting. Is there a simple replacement cup which i guess would be used on the flatter type of top bearing mount which I can simply use?

I know that I can put a different type of top mount on to match my originals but I want to avoid having to strip out the struts again!

Any help gratefully received.

Cheers. Rossgorooster.

have you got photos? May help. To my knowledge, most top mounts are the same- I think there were some differences over the years, but dimension wise, I think they were the same (different grades of rubber/ bearing I think)

Hi, Thanks for the reply.
Since posting the question I have now replaced the bearing top mounts with the deeper recessed version as was fitted to my original legs.
There is still a gap of about 1/4 inch between the body of the car and the top mount cups once they are fitted.
I have yet to road test it to settle the suspension, but my gut feeling is that I will need to file down the top mount nuts ( from the bottom end of the nut) so that there will not be any play/gap.
My real question now is to find out if Audi made slightly different depth top mount cups and the top mount nuts. The nuts I'm talking about here are the plain slotted ones which retain the top mount bearing, and not the Nylock top mount cup retainers.
I'll try to post up some pics showng the various types and the latest ones to show the gaps as they are now. My camera battery needs charging so I'll do that as soon as I can.
Cheers.

Here are the pictures as promised. Hope that they make sense.
The first pic is the offside, then the nearside, then the offside again looking down on it.
The only other thing I can think of is whether there is a different top mount cup which is less dished?
Cheers. [img][/img]

They're not normally as high as that after replacement.

Don't suppose you got pics of the new mounts before fitting ?

It's normal for old mounts to look flatter.
