The temp gauge on my 90q is not working, well it is but only very intermittently. I have changed the sender unit but no difference. Any thoughts anybody?

Hi,
My 90 2.3E, does the same; I thought it wasn't working at all, until I realized the gauge starts at 50 degrees C; but even after the gauge begins to move it is very erratic, and when the cooling fan cuts in it only runs for a short time; which I believe is typical for Audi and VW engines.

you need to clean the contacts on the rear of the gauge
